About Me

As a Teacher

My name is Ms. Erica Luczak! I am a recent graduate from both St. Louis Community College and University of Missouri- St. Louis. From St. Louis Community College I acquired my Associates of Arts in Teaching in 2012, thus lead me to the University of Missouri- St. Louis where I acquired both my Bachelor’s in Elementary Education and a Certificate to teach English as a Second Language. I believe every student can learn and am after inspiring them in that adventure in my classroom with fun and engaging lessons.

During my studies, I worked for the Windsor C-1 School District in Imperial, MO as a Substitute Teacher. I worked as a Substutite in the district four three years, and fell in love with teaching grades First through Third. Then, in 2013, I had the opportunity to be a part of Windsor's Latchkey program. Even though its a little more laid back than a regular school day, I loved playing with students of all ages and teaching them new games! There, I felt I really had full creative realm; which I hope to continue in my classroom as well! If I'm getting bored, I know the student are too. So, I thrive at making everyday a new adventure for all of us!

I have been very blessed to have had my own classroom as a 2nd Grade Teacher at St. Louis Premier Charter School for the past 3 years! This school year (2018-2019), I have switched positions to an English as a Second Language Teacher. I can't wait to see what this year brings with my students, as we become a community of learners!

As a Person

As mentioned above, my name is Ms. Erica Luczak. I grew up in and around St. Louis, Missouri my whole life. Growing up here has been a true blast! I love the all the cultures in the area and am always excited when I find a new treasure! Some things I love about St. Louis are the sports teams (Let's Go Blues!!), Forest Park (Free: Zoo, Science Center, Muny, and Art Museaum), and of course Ted Drews!

I have family that live in the area as well and am always excited to see them and spend time with them! I grew up in a big family, my grandma had 13 children! I am thankful to have had the opportunity to live with my grandma since 4th grade and also with my older sister, my mother, my father. They have been my role models and supporters through my whole teaching journey, and I cannot thank them enough! They have shaped me into the person I am today! During my journey, I have always loved teaching. As a child, I played pretend school almost every day, so doing it as a job is a dream come true!

What I believe in as a Teacher:

Cooperative Learning

Cooperative Learning happens in small groups that the students are placed in in the classroom. In these groups, students work together to solve a problem, question, or task. I have students sit in pods with a mixture of abilities from personal to academic. This ensures that every student can interact with their peers, no matter how different and learn from those differences to make gains in their education!

Brain Breaks

Brain Breaks are used periodically throughout the school day or week. If I notice that some students are getting fidgety, I take control of that and seek out an answer with a Brain Break. This allows them to get their fidgets out in a constructive way and helps the students transition from subject to subject as well! Who doesn't need a break now-a-days anyway?!
